sunset. wish. love.

One of the few things I love about winter is the sky. The dance of bare branches against the dying light always moves me. I often wish upon a winter sky. These are the quiet days, until the earth is once again warmed and comes back to life...

when we had rest

"Be still, my soul, be still; the arms you bear are brittle,
Earth and high heaven are fixt of old and founded strong.
Think rather, -- call to thought, if now you grieve a little,
The days when we had rest, O soul, for they were long."

peace

This is the time of year when we see the best sunsets. And with all the Christmas craziness, I think it must be the time of year that we most need a little reminder to stop and contemplate the beauty and majesty of nature around us.

Peace, my dear bloggers. :)

day is done

I'm loving the sunsets lately, with the tracery of bare branches against the sky at dusk. Can you spy the bird's nest in the tall tree on the right?

I shot this one evening last week. Both my kids ran out the door with me and up the road to the baseball field, where we could see the beauty spread out before us. I like it that they will take the time to enjoy a beautiful sunset. I think I raised 'em right. ;)

magical

It's only a contrail, but doesn't it look magical? I guess it's a fitting symbol as we head into Advent.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
When in the morning light I wake,
Teach me the path of love to take.

Name That Planet

taken with my 55-200 zoom, handheld

Does anyone know what planet is to be found low in the western sky at dusk right now? Is it Venus?

Whatever it is, I think it is way cool. :)

Red Sky at Night

I've been taking a big step back from posting lately -- just needed a little time away from the computer. But I couldn't help posting this beautiful sunset from my archives. Some images never make it to the blog, and this is one of them.

Hoping you are all well, dear bloggers. It's beginning to smell like spring here in New Jersey, and the days are getting just a wee bit warmer. I'm hoping most of the snow will be gone soon, and I will be able to see my snowdrops poking up.

I can't wait. :)

Skywatch Friday: Another Sunset

Are you tired of sunsets yet? November through March seems to be the best time for sunsets in my part of the world; we have a beautiful one almost every other day. It's actually a good thing for me, because the landscape is in that California Dreamin' time -- all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. And until we get some mist or some snow, I have to resort to buying flowers at the supermarket to shoot something decent. Not that I have a problem with that, you understand. ;)

Check out all the wonderful sky shots at Skywatch Friday.

Monday Wishes

"This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life."

Skywatch Friday: I Love Sunsets

My kitchen window faces west, so I get to enjoy autumn sunsets while cooking dinner. There are lots of trees on the horizon that get in the way, though. So when I see the beginning of the show, I grab my camera and run upstairs where I can shoot through a window in the hallway.

Dinner tends to be a little late at our house. ;)

Please visit Skywatch Friday for terrific images from all over the world.

'Scuse Me While I Touch the Sky

I love how big the sky feels when you're at the beach. Somehow, you get a feeling of endless possibilities... 'scuse me while I touch the sky.

Quick, who sang that?

Wide Open Spaces

I'm back from one week of wide open spaces at the Jersey shore. The sea, the sand, the glorious skies -- my wide angle kit lens was the only one I used all week. This shot of the salt marshes was actually taken from the car as my husband drove. You will be seeing a lot of skies this week. :)

Silently Away

"The days come and go like muffled and veiled figures sent from a distant friendly party, but they say nothing, and if we do not use the gifts they bring, they carry them as silently away."
