Rolling In

This was shot last week, on a rainy morning at the beach. You can see how my lens was fogged up in the lower right corner. I edited for saturation and added a texture in Photoshop to make it seem even more dramatic. I like the way the clouds turned out.

Yesterday it rained like mad here in New Jersey. Probably about two or more inches in less than an hour. We sat on the porch and watched as the thunder and lightning rolled through and our lawn was covered in puddles. The water table is always high in our yard, but I think if we'd dug a huge hole right then, it would have filled with water in about ten minutes.

Waiting for a Gift from the Sea

"The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea."
Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Gray

Somehow, even a gray day at the beach can be beautiful. I walked early every morning, and watching the clouds chase each other across the sky was endlessly fascinating. Somehow, walking at home is just not the same... :(

Day's End

I love the beach at day's end, when most of the people have left to seek their dinner, and the light is soft.  There is no more mad rush to wring pleasure out of the day, only a quiet and peaceful acceptance of the night to come.  The air is cool, the slanting sun is pale, and it is a kind of blessing to linger under the soft sky.

Leave Your Mark

Leave your mark, blah, blah, blah, mutable sands, blah, blah, blah, capture the moment, blah, blah, blah, taking photographs.

I'm sure there is an insightful metaphor in there somewhere, but I'm just too tired to craft it at the moment.  But you totally understand what I'm trying to say, right?  ;)

Touch the Sky

"Excuse me while I touch the sky."  That Jimi Hendrixx lyric is floating through my brain every time I see this photo.  Life near the beach is elemental, and you do indeed feel as though you can touch the sky here, more than anywhere else.

Swoop

I guess the title speaks for itself.  I love to watch the seagulls at the beach swoop down among the bathers to investigate.  This guy happened to swoop right in front of my sand chair, and I was lucky enough to snap a shot of him.  :)
