Skywatch Friday: Another Sunset

Are you tired of sunsets yet? November through March seems to be the best time for sunsets in my part of the world; we have a beautiful one almost every other day. It's actually a good thing for me, because the landscape is in that California Dreamin' time -- all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. And until we get some mist or some snow, I have to resort to buying flowers at the supermarket to shoot something decent. Not that I have a problem with that, you understand. ;)

Check out all the wonderful sky shots at Skywatch Friday.

Skywatch Friday: I Love Sunsets

My kitchen window faces west, so I get to enjoy autumn sunsets while cooking dinner. There are lots of trees on the horizon that get in the way, though. So when I see the beginning of the show, I grab my camera and run upstairs where I can shoot through a window in the hallway.

Dinner tends to be a little late at our house. ;)

Skywatch Friday: Autumn Sunset

It's been such a long time since I've joined Skywatch Friday! My daughter was sitting at the kitchen table doing her homework earlier this week, when she called out to me to look at the sunset.

Wow. This has been such a colorful autumn -- beautiful leaves and skies, too. I can't help feeling like it's a great last hurrah before the cold and colorless winter to come. :(

Please take a moment to visit all the wonderful images at Skywatch Friday.

Skywatch Friday: Ice Blue

Finally, some blue sky!  It is a beautiful and bright day today, but still very cold.  Is it too much to ask for blue and warm at the same time?!  Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.  :)

Skywatch Friday: A Winter Sunset

This shot is SOOC, taken last Saturday from an upstairs window in my house.  It was such an amazing sunset -- I must have taken over 30 photos, and had a hard time choosing just one for this post.  I have to thank my husband for alerting me to this photo opportunity.  Very often, he is the one who calls me to ask "Are you taking pictures of the sunset?"  :)

Skywatch Friday: At Peace

"We shall find peace.  We shall hear the angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds."

Wishing you all a sky full of diamonds tonight.  :)  To see beautiful skies from all over the world, please visit Skywatch Friday.

Skywatch Friday: Cloudscape

"Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down.  And this is all life really means."
                                                                                                    Robert Louis Stevenson

The skies around here have been unrelievedly gray lately, so when this beautiful cloudscape presented itself last week, I went a little crazy snapping pictures.  :)

Skywatch Friday: Katie's Sunset

If you look closely at the bottom left corner of the photo, you will see the almost ghostly image of my daughter's face.  She just happened to walk into frame when I was shooting.  She would kill me if she knew I was posting her picture, however faint.  Ah, the joy of living with teenagers...

Skywatch Friday: Katie's Sunrise

My daughter got her license a few weeks ago, and has been driving herself to school every morning in her brother's car (he's away at college).  The night before I took this shot, she asked me if I would drive her, because she has to park far away and walk, and it was going to be very cold.  So I was awake at 7am to see this glorious sight, right outside my front door.

So I guess there are some rewards for being a good mom after all.  ;)

Skywatch Friday: Natirar

This was taken earlier in the week at a park close to my home.  It was late afternoon, on one of those blustery autumn days, when bits of blue and shafts of light would peek out from amid the smartly scudding clouds.

Scores of wonderful skies from all over the world may be seen at Skywatch Friday.

Skywatch Friday: Giving Thanks

It is Thanksgiving Day in the United States.  As I write this, the turkey is roasting in the oven and the (seemingly) hundred and one side dishes are all coming along nicely.  By the time I post this, things will be crazy in the kitchen.  But when we sit down to enjoy the feast, one of the things I will be giving thanks for is the weekly Skywatch posts, which take me all over the world.

Visit Skywatch Friday, and to all of my countrymen: Happy Thanksgiving!

Skywatch Friday: Reprise

Are you sick of mist shots yet?  I know I've been posting them practically all week, but I just can't help myself.  I took this last week, along with about 200 others.  So just be thankful I didn't post them all.  ;)

Now go visit Skywatch Friday, where you will be sure to see loads of beautiful fluffy clouds, and sunsets, and moonshots.  I know you'll need it after all this mist.  :)

Skywatch Friday: Autumn Moon

These pictures always seem to appear when I'm driving my daughter to school.  I hurried to drop her off, so I could come back to this spot, park and shoot.  I just think I deserve some props for not stopping when I first saw it, and telling her to get out and walk the rest of the way.  I'm just sayin'.  ;)

I'm finally getting in the habit of bringing my camera along every time I get in the car.  This is my reward.  Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Skywatch Friday: Pure Blue

Pure blue sky, as far as the eye can see.  This shot was taken at a park near my home.  We are having some really lovely fall weather here in New Jersey.   The ground is getting dry, though, and we really need some rain.  I hesitate to say it, but we will probably get more than our fair share in November.  It all evens out.

Skywatch Friday: Morning Has Broken

"Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day."
Christian hymn, lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon

Skywatch Friday: At Dusk

"Already o'er the west the first star shines,
   And day and dark are imperceptibly linked;
The fences and pied fields grow indistinct,
Deep beyond deep the living light declines..."
                                                                             from the poem "At Dusk"
                                                                              by Archibald Lampman

Dusk is such a magical time.  The cares of the day slip slowly away with the setting sun, as the  light gives way slowly to darkness.   The sky silvers, the air cools and the small creatures of the day settle into their nests and burrows.  Night falls.  Prayers are whispered on the wind.  Nunc dimittis.

Skywatch Friday: Setting Moon

This shot of the setting moon was taken back in the spring.  It seems like I am always seeing Skywatch shots while driving.  Then I have to hurry home and grab the camera.  Please visit all the other wonderful photographers at Skywatch Friday.
