places of the heart

There is something so very satisfying about the sight of hay bales in a field, especially as the sun slips down. They are sculptural and beautiful in and of themselves, but I think it must be the feeling of satisfaction at a job well done, and security in the knowledge of a full barn come winter... And this is an almost iconic scene for me, too. It is about a mile from my house, and one of the places from my childhood that lives in my heart.

Mary, what a wonderful composition. I think a lot of people would have stepped in front of the trees to take the shot (myself included), but I really love that the trees are in the foreground... it adds greater depth to the image. Very lovely!

Happy 4th!

When I see them, I'm reminded that some things never change.

Love this one, Mary. xo

I agree. The shot is fantastic and I think it is equal parts of satisfaction, appreciation and good memories.

I hadn't thought about it that way, but yes, I can see that hay bales would be so important.
I love the cherries in the next post, too, but mine have never made it to the studio...

Most hay is baled in box shape around here but a few weeks ago I drove by a field filled with these and swore to myself to return with my camera...they were already gone when I returned:( I can appreciate these though!

Don't you just love fields like that? And to think if you lived in the city you'd almost never get to experience something so beautiful. Captured first thing in the morning, with the dew still so fresh, is bliss.

Very comforting, Mary....I too grew up with bales gathered just down the road....alas, my hometown is no longer a "town".....there is a subdivision where the hay grew....(put up a parking lot.....)......smiles.
