funghi, and other fun...

There are certain times every year that find me on my stomach in the backyard, camera in hand. One is when the violets appear in springtime. The other is in the fall, when autumn rains bring a host of mushrooms. I spent about 20 minutes sprawled out in the backyard, taking this and other funghi photos last Thursday. Later in the day, I happened to look out the window and saw two coyotes about ten yards from where I had been laying.

Yikes.

I scrambled but could not locate my zoom lens. Honestly, I just didn't want to waste a minute taking pictures of them. I just wanted to look. They were an incredible sight. Beautiful, but scary. (If you want to know what coyotes look like, here are some Google pictures.) Now, of course, I wish I had some decent photos. But I guess I will just have to be happy with the mushrooms. I wonder if coyotes eat mushrooms... :)

Yikes is right! I think that coyotes lick their lips for Marys! eek!

We had quite the problem with coy dogs - the half coyote/half wolf - they've made it down into VT, now. They had made this house their territory while it was empty and the first year - they were all over the place leaving bits of deer, etc. in our very yard! urgh!

Mushrooms....let's think about something pleasant like mushrooms...=]

This is a gorgeous photo, Mary! In a soft light, indeed. sigh, I'm in the slump again but I don't think that it will be hard to get out, this time - you're photos - as alwasy - make me want to grab my camera! =]

Forever grateful to you for sharing your heart for the image and the world with us! It keeps me going! =]

Love, Katy xxo

Beautiful shot! It's amazing the beauty at our feet that we sometimes miss. Coyotes are very common where we live and I often hear them howling at night. One has been spotted down the road - not a pleasant thought. A neighbour down there had 2 roosters killed in the hen house in daylight but they weren't eaten so we're not sure what the culprit was. Coyotes can be a threat so be careful. Never run away from them. Make lots of noise and walk slowly away facing them. They usually are more fearful of humans but are looking for food in the city as well as the country. Have a great week. Pamela

I know for certain that coyotes kill cats...so I have a real dread and hatred of them. There are quite a few in my area.

Now fungi of all types I love!

Gasp! Wonderful!!

Coyotes eat mammals 90% of the time but I guess they could eat a little mushroom every now and then. They're also nocturnal but occasionally will be seen during the day.

Lovely. You truly have some beautiful light in your backyard. We see coyotes all the time. Luckily they stay out of our yard so I don't have to worry about them getting the cats of chickens, but still..... It's the wolves I worry about.
