cooling down

I think I must be the most contrary person imaginable. After complaining about winter and yearning for spring, summer has worn out it's welcome with me already. Maybe it's the heat and humidity here in NJ. At 91 yesterday, it was not as hot as some other parts of the country, but it was too hot for me. :)

So I have abandoned the bright colors of summer and taken to creating black & white conversions with added textures. And I am quite enamored of this little vase of mini-sunflowers. Just think of it as summer without the heat. :)

I'm liking the black and white! Nice and subtle for a hot summers week.

You do have a/c, right? I'm amazed at how many people don't. If we didn't have it I don't think I'd get any sleep at all! Yes, it is rather warm out there. My husband says there's only a small window of temperatures where I'm comfortable. Ha!!!

Sharon, we have AC in the bedrooms and family room only. :(. And my husband says the same thing about me! lol

That's a great ... summer without the heat!
So couldn't live (okay, I would live) without a/c ... hubby keeps it turned down so low, I have to wear sweaters inside or go outside to warm up!

The heat can just suck the life out of us, can't it! =O I'm forever grateful that I live in the mountains. It's been summery warm but always a breeze coming off the hill. Then, just when I need to water the garden - it rains, the heat breaks - the old house cools down, again, and we get a night in the 50s - ahhhhh!

In CA, Mary, it would get hot in June and that was it - no rain - no break (well, unless you count, like 110 d for two weeks with a change to 99 - you could really feel the difference.) Thing is - it was dry heat and we could just adjust to soaking it up. Here, on the East Coast, we die and the mosquitoes come to eat the carcass - yikes!

Well, I think that your approach is very clever!=D

I like it, and a change is a good thing.

Here we haven't really had any super hot days yet, which is not normal. But I am certainly not complaining.

It's been a year of extremes...what can we do?

Oh I love this. I think that it being summer has alot to do with my photography rut at the moment. it seems the scenery never changes.

And I'm quite enamored of this image, Mary! I love the composition and treatment very much. I find it beautiful and also intriguing.

As for summer, we still haven't had much in the Pacific NW yet. But I don't hear too many complaints with the majority of the country broiling. Today it won't even hit 70. Hmm. xoxo – g

We have been having the heat here in New Brunswick, Canada too but I'm not complaining at all. We had a long cool and wet spring after the long cold winter so I'll take sun and heat for as long as it will be delivered. I do like your black and white photo. Stay Cool! Pamela

Your post made me smile, as I felt like you were describing me! Our summers are generally quite pleasant, as we are so far north and on a lake, but this summer.... well, it has been memorable, esp. with a record mosquito population!
I'm a huge fan of B&W, so, your image is perfect in every way!

I love the simplicity of the whole photo - the shapes and the colours!!!

The past few weeks we've had over 100 degrees and I think it is supposed to be 105. Most of the time I manage and I do love Oklahoma summers. Hate, hate, hate the winter so I don't complain much about the heat. Stay cool. Carla

Mary,
Your image in black and white is very appropriate for the way I am feeling about this summer. I love the warmth of the sun and really do not like the cold - but the heat here in Texas has been over 100 degree's (today high is due to hit 105) for weeks with no break....much of our landscape looks like a black and white photo! Great photograph!

I have always preferred black and white format to color format. You outdid yourself on this photograph.
