a most improper lawn

Often, the end of April finds me lying on my stomach in the lawn, photographing the wild violets. It's not really much of a lawn -- more of a field that's been mown over the years -- and it is scattered with violets and dandelions, bugle and buttercups. A most improper lawn, really.

And I adore it. :)

Thank you so much for all your kind comments over the past week. You guys are the best!

No, by suburbian standards, not much of a lawn. But you know what? I would rather have it this way. Little splotches of blue and yellow add interest.

Your lawn is as beautiful as our is. We live in a former cow pasture so it's more weeds than grass, but it's also natural and "green". Enjoy the weekend! Pamela

Good morning Mary,
It sounds like the perfect lawn to me. How lovely that you get to enjoy such little natural treasures cropping up here and there for you to find.

I hope you have yourself a very lovely weekend,

OH I just love this shot. I too find myself lying down, sitting even sometimes I feel like I am standing on my head to get a shot. I absolutely adore this photo.

One of my favorite things to do is lie in the grass and take pictures of purty things in it.
Lovely.

Weeds are still flowers even if some snobby horticulturist deemed them weeds. I am finally following you - you've been up on my bookmark toolbar until now.
P.S. Watch out for the red ants!

And I miss the little violets back home.

I love all of those flowers that make up a most improper lawn! I love the depth of field on your shot. Those violets are tiny but I love how in focus they are with the bright green grass! Happy weekend!

This is exactly what my lawn consists of! I just can't bring myself to mow it or change it. I have been trying to take a photo of it that shows its true nature but nothing has worked so far...

Oh, I can see why you adore it! I think I spy some clover, too! Our wild violets are soooo tiny, but maybe I'll give them a try with my long macro. Lovely photo, lovely lawn, dear Mary. Wishing you a beautiful weekend. xo – g
