What's My Style?

I've been feeling a bit conflicted lately. I love two different kinds of images -- tack sharp and slightly vintage, like yesterday's photo of the dandelions, and soft, gauzy images like today's forsythia.

I feel as though I should have one type of processing -- a style that is instantly recognizable as mine. But then I start playing with Photoshop and I'm all over the place, style-wise.

Aaarrgh.

The problem with having only one style is that all your photos will look the same. It's nice to spice things up so that admirers of your photos don't get bored. Of course if you are really famous, like Ansel Adams then having one style works for you. But I would think that even he got bored taking so many of the same type of pictures.

I completely understand what you are going through...I don't think either of those necessarily represents your style...so to speak. I think your style is more how you shoot...what you compose, how you expose, what are the deign elements in a picture?...are you more candid or posed for people? Do you love putting everything in rule of thirds? I edit my pictures in many different ways after I take them and give them the treatment I feel is best...hopefully I helped a little :)

I don't see you as all over the place.
You are an "environmental documentarian".
And, a fine one at that....smiles.

it's not the processing that makes it a style to me but the themes and composition of your photographs.

you take gorgeous photographs that everyone loves...that is your style. :)

I think that photography is an extension of our personality. Sometimes I feel dramatic and my photos will be darker and high contrast...other days, I am softer and serene. You can pretty much tell what kind of day I am having based on my photos. And I love that photoshop gives us the ability to express ourselves so creatively!

I like both styles but I understand you want to have your own. Nice blog and great pictures.

I think the question is "what do you love"? And then you do whatever it is that you love.

Some days I feel sharp as a tack, while others find me feeling as if I'm in a gaussian blur.

I do think you have a style of your own...I will often see a photo and know it is yours...
