Shedding My Shell

“Perhaps middle-age is, or should be, a period of shedding shells; the shell of ambition, the shell of material accumulations and possessions, the shell of the ego”

I have been thinking along those lines lately. As I approach what some consider to be middle aged...and come to terms with it. I think I have stepped with grace away from the denial and almost embraced the learning experience.
I love the perspective she puts on it and I love the picture of the shell you included. In fact a few weeks ago while walking through the wood I took a picture of the same type of snail. I couldn't figure out what it was that made it appeal to me. And now I know. Thanks.

Oh, Mary. I missed you when you were away. I've meant to tell you that. Maybe I'll take this little book with me when I go away to Maine. We leave in 9 days!

This photo is so beautiful.

Ah, what a wise woman that Anne Morrow Lindbergh. And the things she names are just shells, coverings, masks that need to drop away, so the real, the true, the unvarnished, the beautiful can emerge.

Thank you for highlighting that quote.
