Deer Crossing

My backyard is a deer highway, and my garden is Mickey D's.

Seriously.

But they are sort of cute, aren't they?  I was about twenty feet from this young fellow when I snapped his picture with my zoom lens.

Last night I was shooting some flower macros in the garden when I startled a fawn about three feet away, nestled for a nap behind the peonies.  At first I thought it was a rabbit, because it was lying down and I just saw it's back.  I think it was just as surprised as I was.  I stood there, camera in hand, mouth gaping, and just watched it run away into the wilderness at the edge of the lawn.

Didn't get a single picture.  Aaaarrrgh!

If you enjoy making mosaics with your photos, please consider joining Mosaic Monday at my other blog, Little Red House.  Mr. Linky will be up by 10pm tonight, so you can join the fun.

What a nice visitor (unless, of course, he was eating your plants!) And wonderfully fragile - how does he manage to stand on those frail legs?

A button buck! Cool. And would you have been able to get a good shot with the macro lens of the fawn running away? So look at it that way! Our garden is becoming a mecca for the local wildlife. My husband is trying to lock it up like Fort Knox. To no avail. I feel badly for him.

Yes, I know the feeling about deer highway but it's my city that is the deer territory.
It seems that I walk with them wherever I go, to work, to the store, they are everywhere!

You have captured a beautiful forest creature here!

Finding a fawn in my flower bed would make my day. I'm sure you'll never forget it.

I got a new lens and a teleconverter about a week ago and I went to sussex county to the Delaware Water Gap area in hopes of getting some use out of the extra 200mm the teleconverter gave me to shoot some wildlife. Well I got some geese and that was about it. So the next day I walk to my little park in suburbia at the edge of the Gartden State Parkway and lo and behold I shot deer, egrets, turtles, and yes geese. Go figure!!!

You never know when you will get them.

This is wonderful.
